Message from Sidharta Auctioneer:

Appreciation and Recognition

This year is our twelfth year conducting auctions. Every time we

hold our Fine Art auctions, we try to present the lots that are offered

through us with some information about the artworks or about the
artists who created them. Sometimes we write about single artists and

how they contributed to the development of Indonesian art. Other

times the write-ups can be about groups of artists and their role in

advancing art in Indonesia. As we often get the opportunity to auction

of artworks coming from estate of collectors, we also write about the

history of the collection, offering knowledge about the culture of

collecting in Indonesia.

As you may have noticed, auction houses tend to focus on offering

works of art by artists who have a strong following in the art market.

Of course we do to. However, we also enjoy stumbling upon great

artworks by artists who seem to have been overlooked, when we are

offered collections to be auctioned through us. We try to do some

preliminary research on them and present the artworks with some

information about the artist, so that they will be noticed by potential

collectors. We try our best in providing Indonesian artists with the
appreciation and recognition they deserve. In this Fine Art auction,

our efforts continue.

Twenty nine art pieces from the property of a gentleman is the first

highlight of our auction. In addition to works by Indonesian artists

Abdullah Suriosubroto, Otto Djaya, Suminto, Tatang Kuntjoro and

Tio Tjay, there are also paintings by foreign artists Gustave Bettinger,

Piet Van Wyngaert, Johan Dijkstra, Willem Dooijewaard and Ken

Pattern. Among the selection, Gerard Adolfs Adorned Figure (#036)

and Ong Kiem Seng's Temple at Bhaktapur (#045) are worthy of

special attention. While Ida Bagus Made Poleng's paintings rarely

appear on the market, in this auction we are proud to be able to

present you with his painting entitled Melasti (#050).

In the following section, three artworks (lots #051- 053) from the

collection of the late Herawati Diah, journalist, publisher and patron

of the arts and culture, are offered to benefit the Yayasan Bina Carita
Indonesia, a foundation that she established to help children in need.

This auction also features a number of contemporary art pieces done

by various of artists. Sigit Santosa's Bumi Yang Tersisa Bagi Anakku
