Welcome to our June auction: Asian Modern Fine Art & Collectibles, and we are pleased to invite you to directly bid at our gallery on the 25th June. For you who wish to bid from home at your leisure, the facilities are available as well. This auction highlights the paintings by Agapetoes Agus Kristianda, Sendiri (Alone), Tommy Wondra Gamang #2 (Nervous #2), Rusli, Ceremony, Oesman Effendi, Untitled, 1971, oil on canvas, Arie Smit, In The Village Temple, 1998. Fadjar Sidik, unlike what other Yogyakarta painters produce, he has used an abstraction that is unlike any other painters from Yogyakarta or painters from Bandung have done. His unique abstraction seems to have come from music and spatial observations. Although it might have originated from some sort of objective representation, the final result is a non-representational abstract depiction of a feeling or emotion.
Popo Iskandar was an excellent abstract artist who could transform his subjects into poetic and appealing subject matters for paintings. Caught in the Net seems to be related to the nets on islands in the sea that he saw one day. The Stalking Prey (Mengintai Mangsa), by Basoeki Abdullah, who was fascinated with dangerous animals and big cats, depicts a lion and lioness gazing to a distance.
The followings are two artists of Bali, Ida Bagus Made Nadera, lot 786, Membawa Hasil Panen (Bringing the Harvest), 1989, and I Made Sukada was one of most original artists from Ubud after the Second World War. He was influenced by Rudolf Bonnet who co-founded the Pita Maha artists’ union. Painting with meticulous detail and care, Sukada’s output of work was limited. He passed away at a relatively young age leaving a small body of wonderful works. This painting of the Tri Murti Nudes is a very good example of his oeuvre at his peak with magnificent details.
Another Baliness painter is Pande Ketut Taman, who tries to represent man's inner relationship with nature, where he presents many paintings and sculptures in a figurative semi-abstract style. His brush strokes are firm and accompanied by strong earth tones as seen in this work. Here he depicts the figures of monks or monks each holding a yellow flower.
Have a look at our collectibles, we have 19th-20th century, carved teak shrine with gild decoration, a pair of vintage carved teak armchairs, modern celadon glazed dish with three molded fishes, and a late 19th century Japanese bronze koro. Another pair is Peranakan Chinese carved armchairs and a 20th century Chinese carved serpentine incense burner on hardwood stand.
Enjoy our collections and don’t forget to ask for the condition reports of the artworks that you are interested in. Private viewing can be arranged prior to the auction day. See you at our gallery and stay well.
