Joe Armaya constructs a village through the accumulation of thick strands
of acrylic, coiled and pressed against the surface, forming houses, trees,
and pathways. The composition settles into a dominant field of blue,
contrasted sharply by orange rooftops that rise intermittently, anchoring
the eye. Figures appear along a winding path breathing life into the scene.
Armaya’s use of coiled acrylic immediately creates motion. Each
coil repeats over each other, guiding movement across the surface in
a continuous flow. This repetition establishes an inherent rhythm within
the composition. Houses, trees, and figures are pulled into this movement,
unified by the same looping structure that directs how the painting is felt as
much as how it is created
